CHARLIE FINDS HIS GOALSCORING TOUCH

With a brace of goals from exciting young striker Charlie McCarthy, Egham Town moved back up to 10th place at the wide open space known as the Croydon Arena. Egham took an early lead but were pegged back by the hosts with a penalty award that went hand in hand with the dismissal of centre back Tom Martin; just as well, then, that Tom Bentley seems to be making his way back. Croydon, managed by two-time Egham boss Dickson Gill, make the return trip on 13 April. There is no match report this week as I was not there, succumbing as I did to the siren call of overtime and having made the decision to do this on the back of three straight defeats (i.e. before we beat Hanworth Villa) and not really wanting to traipse across South London to one of the most soulless grounds in Christendom. Judging by Jimmy Hughes' comments I made the right decision, apart from seeing Charlie's goals.

Egham next face Colliers Wood United, whom the Sarnies beat 3-0 at the Wibbandune in January in the Surrey Senior Cup. That is followed by two more home games. Chessington & Hook United will be looking to avenge a 3-2 loss we inflicted on them in September, Frankie Driver scoring the winner in the last minute. We have yet to play Cove, against whom the form guide says that whoever wins one game will lose the other.

Egham Town are now, unofficially, the second most entertaining side in the CCL Premier, if you just want to see goals. As you can see below, I have added a table that is calculated on dividing the number of goals scored and conceded by the number of games played. We have the highest total, 107, and are the equal fourth highest scorers, with North Greenford on 70, Camberley on 61. Chertsey 60 and Sandhurst level with us on 59.
